The last weekend in June takes the form of a giant LGBTQ+ pride celebration, with the Gay Pride parade on Saturday.
In the United States, Pride was born out of the Stonewall riots: after yet another police raid on an LGBTQ+ bar in New York City, patrons revolted on the night of June 28, 1969. A year later, the city, along with Los Angeles and San Francisco, was the first to organize a Pride March. In S.F., the last weekend of June is a giant week-long celebration. The highlight is the Sunday parade down Market Street, where members and supporters of the community come out with feathers, leather and banners. It's great!
