CITY HALL
Building of neoclassical architecture in the United States with a golden dome classified as the 5th largest in the world
San Francisco's City Hall is considered one of the finest examples of neoclassical Beaux-Arts architecture in the United States. It opened its doors in 1915. Inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, its golden dome now shines over the Civic Center district. It is immense: the fifth largest dome in the world. Today, it houses San Francisco's mayor and county administration. Free guided tour every Friday. At night, it is regularly illuminated in the colors of current events.
