NOBBY CLARKE MANSION
Huge Victorian Queen Anne style house in San Francisco with a very dark history.
This gigantic Queen Anne-style Victorian house was built in 1893 by Alfred "Nobby" Clarke, an Irish immigrant who became a policeman and then a lawyer. He wanted to surprise his wife. But she refused to leave wealthy Nob Hill to live in what was then rural Eureka Valley. She filed for divorce, he lost all his money in an economic depression, was forced to sell the house in 1896 and died shortly afterwards. A dark story indeed. The mansion was sold in 2022 for $5.8 million.
