LOTTA'S FOUNTAIN
Completely renovated fountain offered as a gift to the city by Lotta to commemorate the anniversary of the earthquake in 1906.
Every April 18, thousands of people gather in front of Lotta's Fountain at 5:12 a.m. to commemorate the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. Designed in 1875 and given as a gift to the city by American actress and philanthropist Lotta Crabtree, the fountain is actually the place where survivors spontaneously gathered to reunite with their loved ones after the disaster. In 1999, the fountain, which had been neglected in past decades, was completely renovated to its original 1875 appearance.
