RUTH ASAWA FOUNTAINS
Basin with a bronze sculpture with many monumental fountains in public spaces in San Francisco
In this basin stands a bronze sculpture by Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa made in 1970, inspired by origami. In San Francisco, she has been nicknamed " the fountain lady " for her many monumental fountains in public spaces. It was made in collaboration with the city's children, working with a substance Ruth calls "baker's clay": a mixture of flour, salt and water, baked in a kiln, before casting bronze. Another fountain is located near the Apple Store.
