INTERNATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF AMERICA
Museum dedicated to Asian art in San Francisco, with a garden and a gazebo, exhibiting very well chosen Western works
The International Art Museum of America (IAMA), originally the Superb Art Museum of America, is a museum founded in 2011 by H. H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, an artist who jokingly claimed to be a reincarnation of Vajradhara Buddha and originally contained only works by Vajradhara. You will find it in the South of Market (SoMa) district, at 1023 Market Street. It is now dedicated to Asian art with a few well-chosen Western works on display. The main entrance contains a permanent garden installation with a pond, waterfall, imitation rock formations, a pagoda-roofed gazebo and a treehouse sculpture designed by artist Steve Blanchard. The works of H. H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, always in number, are remarkable: calligraphy, Asian-style paintings of insects, carp, trees, flowers, breathtaking representations of tigers or pandas, homage to Van Gogh's sunflowers, a profusion of work with varied and very masterful techniques. There are also Yun sculptures, works by masters such as Qi Baishi or the Yongzheng Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Among the portraits and landscapes of European artists, from the 18th to the 20th century, there are works by Maurice de Vlaminck, Évariste Carpentier and Rosa Bonheur. This museum, which is well worth a few hours of wandering, has as its mission harmony and peace between cultures
