With over 18,000 pieces, theAsian Art Museum houses one of the world's largest permanent collections of Asian art. Opened in 1966 following a donation by billionaire and collector Avery Brundage, the museum today brings together art and artifacts from all over Asia, some dating back over 6,000 years. On the second floor of this imposing Civic Center building is a genuine tea room, built in Kyoto and reassembled by Japanese carpenters in San Francisco. Temporary exhibitions.
