GLBT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM
America's first museum dedicated to LGBT history, in the heart of the Castro, with a main gallery highlighting the history of the movement.
Inaugurated in 2011, this museum is the first of its kind in the United States. As the capital of gay activism, San Francisco's Castro, after Berlin, has a museum dedicated to LGBT history (later changed to GLBT to put the term gay first). It displays the tens of thousands of archives accumulated since the 1980s. The main gallery features photos, magazines, objects, personal testimonies and political advances of the movement. Temporary exhibitions.
