One block from Pier 14, right downtown, the Rincon Center is a complex of restaurants (including the best Etrusca and Yank Sing), hotels, offices and apartments. At the entrance, Russian emigrant artist Anton Refregier painted a series of 27 murals between 1941 and 1948 depicting the history of California and the role of the city of San Francisco. In the style of social realism, the mural and Refregier's artistic style were widely criticized after World War II. The place is worth a visit just for that.
