Founded in 1966 by Alfred Peet, the chain boasts over 200 cafés in 9 states. This Dutch immigrant from a family of coffee roasters settled in Berkeley at the age of 35, and set up this small café with the aim of showcasing his know-how and the quality of his coffee beans. The elder statesmen and main inspiration for the giant Starbucks, Peet's Coffee & Tea now offer over thirty premium coffees and teas in their stores. Behind the marble counter, don't miss the brand's small museum, complete with vintage coffee grinders!
