STERN HALL - UC BERKELEY
Famous mural painted by Diego Rivera in Berkeley with themes of workers and land
This famous mural painted by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo's husband, takes up the themes that were dear to him: workers and the land. It shows peasants tilling the land amidst fields of almond trees, while in the foreground, three children grab fruit, ready to enjoy the fruits of their labor, literally. The Mexican communist artist painted Still life and blossoming almond trees while staying with Frida Kahlo near Sacramento in 1930-1931, when they were guests at Rosalie Stern's house.
