HEINOLD’S FIRST AND LAST CHANCE saloon
This small wooden opened in 1884 and withstood the earthquakes of 1906 and 1989. Jack London used to come here as a child.
This small wooden saloon opened in 1884 and is emblematic of Oakland. It withstood the earthquakes of 1906 and 1989. It has the same atmosphere as when Jack London did his homework there as a child. It was to Heinold, the owner at the time, that he spoke of writing. You can enjoy your drink on the terrace, watching the boats sail by. Inside, the decor refers to America's past: the Vietnam War, Prohibition and the two World Wars.
