FLORAL DEPOT
Building across from the majestic Fox Oakland Theatre once occupied by a floral business now a site of the Flora restaurant
Built in 1931, this splendid Art Deco building was designed to shine opposite the majestic Fox Oakland Theatre. To catch the eye, its architect didn't skimp on cobalt-blue and silver ceramics depicting a stylized waterfall. Although it was once occupied by a flower market from which it takes its name, for 13 years it housed the Flora restaurant, which closed in 2019 to make way a year later for Palmetto. But in October 2023, the curtain came down again, symptomatic of the economic crisis facing the Bay Area.
