Oakland's Chinatown with markets, great for cheap Asian food and trinkets
Oakland's Chinatown isn't as touristy as San Francisco's, but it's still a lively neighborhood with markets, Made in China trinkets and good, cheap Asian food. Chinese were the first Asians to arrive in Oakland in the 1850s, followed by Japanese in the 1890s, Koreans in the 1900s and Filipinos in the 1930s. Southeast Asians began arriving in the 1970s during the Vietnam War. An exotic stroll awaits you!
