DEETJEN’S BIG SUR INN
Small wooden huts lost in the redwoods that have been welcoming visitors since the 1930s. A crazy charm.
Built by Grandpa and Grandma Deetjen, these little wooden shacks lost in the redwoods have been welcoming visitors since the 1930s, including Henry Miller who came to cut himself off from the world. Custom vintage decor, wood fire and stove for heat, no locks on doors, no wifi, bathroom on the landing, restaurant famous for its breakfast and dinner. Book well in advance, as it is very much in demand. And for good reason, this is definitely the coolest hotel in California. A little treasure at a very low price.

Breakfast was excellent! They are super accommodating for food allergies and everything tastes great! The server we had was one of the sweetest servers I've ever met! I recommend the eggs Benedict!!!
Dinner wasn't a good a breakfast. The server was accommodating for my allergies, but failed to mention that the food that my family was ordering had tree nuts in it (my family avoids tree nuts when I'm around them because my allergy is airborne). Food tasted good, but not as great as breakfast.
Definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants to get unplugged, enjoy nature, and stay at a historic place!
