AGIA SOLOMONI CATACOMBS
Seven Hellenistic tombs carved into the rock. The site is marked by a terebinth pistachio tree covered with votive offerings.
These Hellenistic catacombs (Κατακόμβη Αγίας Σολωμονής/Katakomvi Agias Solomonis) are named after "Saint Solomonie", a Jewish mother whose seven sons were executed and buried here in 174 B.C. She was later regarded locally as a Christian martyr. Littered with garbage, the site boasts seven rock-cut tombs. It is marked by a terebinth pistachio tree covered with pieces of cloth tied superstitiously to its branches. Other catacombs and an ancient underground church can be seen in nearby streets.
