TIMIOS STAVROS MINTHIS MONASTERY
Strange: this old Greek Orthodox monastery, founded in the century, is now surrounded by a golf course.
This Greek Orthodox monastery (Ιερά Μονή Τιμίου Σταυρού Μίνθης/Iera Moni Timiou Stavrou) is surrounded by the Minthis complex golf course. Probably founded in the 12th century, it took the French name of Sainte-Croix-de-la-Menthe in the 15th century, when Franciscans drove out the Orthodox monks and discovered a cross hidden by the latter in a mint bush. The monastery is now unoccupied, but its 18th-century church still houses the famous cross.
