PANAGIA CHRYSELEOUSA CHURCH IN EMPA
Superb Byzantine church made up of two churches that were brought together. Frescoes from the to centuries.
This pretty Greek Orthodox church (Ιερός Ναός Παναγίας Χρυσελεούσης/Ieros Naos Panagias Chryseleousis) dates back to the 12th century. With two naves and three domes, it is made up of two churches that were brought together. The interior features frescoes dating from the 12th to 16th centuries, including a beautiful depiction of the miraculous fishing episode. Next door is the large Apostolos Andreas church (1995) and the monument to the dead of the War of Independence (1955-1959).
