PANAGIA CHRYSOPATERITISSA MONASTERY
Founded in the century, it's best known for its setting, in the forest of Paphos and on the shores of the small artificial lake of Pomos.
Founded in 1520, this Greek Orthodox monastery (Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Χρυσοπατερίτισσας/Iera Moni Panagias Chrysopateritissas) is especially noteworthy for its setting, in the forest of Paphos and on the shores of the small artificial lake of Pomos. Featuring a picnic area, it owes its name of "Virgin of the Golden Priests" to two monks: one who offered an icon of the Virgin, the other who walked, it is said, on a golden crutch. It is reached via the village of Paliampela/Παλιάμπελα, abandoned around 1980.
