MEDIEVAL TOWER OF KATO PYRGOS
Ruined tower and observatory offering beautiful views of Morfou Bay. Nearby: beach, tavernas and campsite.
This ruined tower (Μεσαιωνικός Πύργος/Mesaionikos Pyrgos, Medieval Fort) gives its name to Kato Pyrgos ("Lower Tower"). Fitted out with an observatory and staircases on Trulli Hill, it offers splendid views over Morfou Bay to Cape Kormakitis. It was built in the 11th century by the Byzantines as a watchtower and lighthouse. Nearby: beach, tavernas, shaded campsite (but no electricity) and footpath to the buffer zone (300 m).
