GRAND HOTEL EXCELSIOR * * * * *
This establishment, which belongs to a major international chain, nevertheless offers affordable prices. Its advantages: being a few hundred metres from the entrance to the old town, offering all the comfort of a 5-star hotel with spacious rooms, suites up to 70 m2, large bathrooms, terraces overlooking the sea with sometimes impressive views, especially on the upper floors, and having two very beautiful swimming pools (outdoor and indoor) and direct access to the sea with a mini private beach. Another asset is the pantagruelic buffets, served in an open space with a view of the sea. Not to mention the open access saunas and the many cafés dotting the leisure areas. All these reasons make it a success with a large number of customers from all over the world, but it sometimes produces some traffic jams in the elevators. Also accessible for people with reduced mobility.

Corridors stink of mold and damp, bathroom in room stinks of sewage. furniture and decor old, AC is useless never got the room below 24c. Much better options in Malta
That said, the hotel staff were very diligent and helpful in finding another room that would suit our needs. Too marks for the staff at the front desk.
English breakfast is not very good.
On arrival we had to wait 5 hours before we were allocated our 'Deluxe Room', which if it was Deluxe, I would hate to see Standard. The room was tired and dated, mattresses stained, pillows useless, shower was over the bath, accompanied by a rank shower mat, and the water pressure so weak it took 20 minutes in the shower just to wash my hair. Second day there was no water!! There was major water pipe burst. Unforeseen for the Hotel, however, their response was dismal. It wasn't until 12 hours later I was offered a shower in the Spa. No compensation offered.
Around the outdoor pool area was dirty, the staff, catering with food and drink, hadn't got a clue. You could wait 1 hour for a bowl of salad and portion of chips.
All I can say good about our trip to The Grand Hotel Excelsior, Malta, was the weather was magnificent.
