GRAND HOTEL EXCELSIOR * * * * *
This establishment, which belongs to a major international chain, nevertheless offers affordable prices. Its advantages: being a few hundred metres from the entrance to the old town, offering all the comfort of a 5-star hotel with spacious rooms, suites up to 70 m2, large bathrooms, terraces overlooking the sea with sometimes impressive views, especially on the upper floors, and having two very beautiful swimming pools (outdoor and indoor) and direct access to the sea with a mini private beach. Another asset is the pantagruelic buffets, served in an open space with a view of the sea. Not to mention the open access saunas and the many cafés dotting the leisure areas. All these reasons make it a success with a large number of customers from all over the world, but it sometimes produces some traffic jams in the elevators. Also accessible for people with reduced mobility.

I ordered room service twice during my stay - both times the phone wasn’t answered and I had to ring the front desk, the second time I called the concierge, guest relations, room service and the front desk - no answer and no one bothered to call back.
On the first day while I was waiting for my room to be ready I ate at the tiki restaurant. I ordered a whole snapper - when it came to the table and the poor waitress tried to take it apart it was so undercooked she couldn’t get the fillets off. She had to take it back to the kitchen resulting in them cooking another fish and wine waiting an hour and a half for lunch.
During my stay I rented a scooter from the concierge - the company was so unprofessional they came without a small helmet, when I asked for them to get one I was told they don’t have any left and most people have medium/large heads so they don’t provide small helmets. They refused to refund the price of the scooter or provide a small helmet. I’m so confused why a 5 star hotel would even use this company. When I looked them up on google they had numerous reviews from people saying that had been scammed and that the company provides unsafe and old scooters. I found another company very quickly myself that offered newer scooters, better quality and friendlier service.
I don’t think these things should be happening at a 5 star hotel. This hotel is too busy, understaffed and run down, definitely not worth the money you pay for a room.

Die Innenstadt von Valletta ist zu Fuß gut zu erreichen.
Wir hatten Zimmer mit direktem Meerblick und ich fand es entspannend Abends einfach da zu sitzen und die Schiffe vom gegenüberliegenden Hafen zu beobachten.
Das Frühstück Buffet war ausreichend aber es gab keine Abwechslung außerdem war der Kaffee nicht gut.
Das Abend Buffet hatte aus meiner Sicht zu wenige Fischgerichte auch bei Salat hätte ich mir mehr Variationen gewünscht und Essig und Öl extra. (nicht in einem Teller zusammen)
Im Zimmer lief immer eine Belüftung, auch wenn man die Klimaanlage ausgemacht hatte. Das fand ich störend. (Ich bin eher Ruhe beim einschlafen gewöhnt.)
Außerdem war zweimal in einer Woche ein Abendessen im Freiem (vor dem Poolbereich) mit Musik, die im Zimmer noch zu hören war.
Da unser Flieger so spät ging hatten wir late check out bis 15:00 genommen und kostete 20€. Fand ich aber fair, weil man noch den Pool mitbenutzen konnte.
Erstaunt haben mich die Bierpreise: 6€ für nichtmal 0.5l, das ist ja fast schon Oktoberfest Niveau.
Der Service war gut und man bekam jeden Tag neue Wasserflaschen aufs Zimmer.
