The train that used to take over 10 hours to get from Nairobi to Mombasa (when it arrived!) now only takes 5 to 6 hours. The Madaraka departs daily at 8am from Syokimau station (Mombasa Road, near JKI airport), stopping at 7 stations (including Voi) and arriving at its final destination at 2pm. The Express train (direct) leaves at 3pm and arrives at 8:08pm. Buses and trains run from Nairobi Central Station for 50 Ksh. It's best to book several days in advance, by telephone, online or at the ticket office at the central station.
