Soysambu is a 190 km2 conservation area on the shores of Lake Elementeita, extending to the Nakuru park boundary. It is an integral part of the Rift Valley lake system. Although little-known, it is home to 176 Nubian giraffes, a critically endangered species with less than 500 individuals in the wild, distributed between Kenya and Uganda. A small population of lions makes its home here, as do buffalo, hyena, impala, eland and numerous birds, including the white pelican.
