The grave of Lord Robert Baden-Powel, founder of the scouting movement, and developer of the concept of territorial recognition
Baden-Powell was born in London in 1857. He joined the Royal Army at the age of 19. This took him to India, then a British colony, where he developed the concept of reconnaissance of unknown territories, which led to the formation of the "éclaireurs", otherwise known as the "scouts". For many travellers, this is the main reason for visiting Nyeri: to see the tomb of the founder of the scouting movement, who died in 1941 at the age of 83. He is buried in the cemetery of St. Peter's Church.
