MAULID FESTIVAL
Muslim religious festival, which marks the birth of the Prophet. It is celebrated every year in Lamu, during one week.
Lamu is known for its Maulidi al Nebi celebrations, which mark the birth of the Prophet. The festivities are organized by religious leaders and the National Museum of Kenya. The Maulidi al Nebi festival is a week-long celebration of music and song, dance, calligraphy, art exhibitions, dhow races and swimming competitions, donkey races, and sword fights. On this occasion, thousands of pilgrims from East Africa, Somalia, Yemen or the Persian Gulf invade the city.
