A high place of the Swahili culture, museum to visit to discover the interior atmosphere of a traditional Swahili house
Lamu has been a centre of Swahili culture for 700 years. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the old town (the historic centre) is a mixture of Swahili, Persian, Arab, Indian and European architecture. Located in the heart of Lamu's old quarter, this small museum, housed in a beautifully restored 18th century house, with antique furniture and objects, showcases this ancient Swahili culture. A must visit to discover the atmosphere inside a traditional Swahili house.
