KOH PANYEE
A village home to the descendants of Javanese immigrants who came here in the century, and a pretty white and gold mosque.
Located near a rocky outcrop, Koh Panye is a fishing village built on stilts. A must-see on every tour, it is home to 360 families and about 1,650 inhabitants, descendants of Javanese immigrants who came here in the 18th century. The village is dominated by a beautiful white and golden mosque, the entire population being Muslim. The island became famous thanks to its youth football team. Inspired by the World 86, they built a floating training ground... and went on to win the regional championships!
