COUSIN
Cousin Island is a nature reserve located 2 km off Praslin, the second largest island in the Seychelles. This granite island and its surrounding sea area were declared a nature reserve in 1968 by the International Council for Bird Preservation (BirdLife International) to protect the last small population of an endemic and endangered bird species, the Seychelles warbler. Since 1975, the entire island, including the 400 meters of water surrounding it, has also been declared a "Special Reserve" by the Seychelles government. Managed by Nature Seychelles since 1998, Cousin Island is a true conservation success story. In addition to the Seychelles warbler, the island is also home to other bird species, including the Seychelles robin. The transformation of the island from a coconut plantation to a thriving native forest has also benefited other species, including giant tortoises and endemic reptiles.
