Statue representing Ali La Pointe, a FLN fighter who died in the Battle of Algiers and is considered a national hero.
Real name Ali Ammar, Ali La Pointe (1930-1957) was born in Miliana. He was a FLN fighter known for his participation in the Battle of Algiers, notably alongside Hassiba Ben Bouali, where they both lost their lives. He is considered a national hero. He is said to have been nicknamed "Ali La Pointe", because he often came to chat with his friends at the ramparts at the far end of Miliana at "la pointe des blagueurs", where his statue now stands. In Algiers, the new MC Alger soccer stadium inaugurated in July 2024 bears his name.
