Today, this church is one of the most important examples of early Christian architecture in southern Europe.
Not far from the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, this church was built in the5th century, on the site of an ancient basilica of the 3rd century. Today it is one of the major pieces of early Christian architecture in Southern Europe. Basilica in cross with three altars, it gave its name to the city of Sofia in the 14th century. Beautiful icons inside. Nearby are the tombs of the unknown soldier and the writer Ivan Vazov, as well as a monument to Païssii de Hilendar.
