Azam Marine is the safest boat company for Dar es Salaam (new, fast fleet) or Pemba (a little less new, departing Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 7-hour crossing). It's best to book your ticket the day before at the port of Malindi (very close to the central waterfront), from where the boats depart, or on the website, online booking possible. Zanzibar-Dar es Salaam (5 departures per day): allow 1h45 for the crossing.
