HAMAMNI PERSIAN BATHS
These public baths built between 1870 and 1888 by Barghash, the third sultan of the island, are well preserved.
Built between 1870 and 1888 by Barghash, the3rd Sultan of the island, as public baths, they were used as such until 1920, women in the morning and men in the afternoon. Today, they are well preserved, especially the baths whose hot water was conveyed by an underground aqueduct. The short visit is worthwhile for the richly decorated marble interior, but also for the view from the top of the building. No written explanation though, so go with a guide or pick one up at the entrance for a tip.
