MSIKITI WA BALNARA
The Msikiti wa Balnara mosque has a distinctive minaret that rises into the sky in the harbor area near the waterfront.
Stone Town has a good number of mosques, you only have to listen to the calls to prayer that multiply at sunset to realize it. This one is the oldest one still standing. The Msikiti wa Balnara Mosque, also known as the Malindi Mosque, was built in 1831, enlarged in 1841, and embellished again in 1890 by Sultan Seyyid Said. It cannot be visited or opened to non-Muslims, but you can still admire its distinctive minaret rising into the sky in the harbour area near the waterfront.
