CHUKWANI PALACE
Palace located about 10 km south of the city, enjoying a splendid view of the sea.
The Chukwani Palace is located about 10 km south of the city. It was the resting place of Sultan Said Bargash who ruled from 1870 to 1888. Unfortunately, only the baths remain, but the view of the sea is splendid and worth a visit to get out of Stone Town and its tourist streets. Next to it, one can also admire a superb villa built by Saïd Hamoud (1896-1902) for his son Ali (1902-1911). It is in this area that one of the first churches in black Africa was built in 1882, of which only ruins remain.
