JAW'S CORNER
Jaw's Corner is a popular place to socialize in Stone Town and is always very lively.
This appointment is unmissable, everyone knows it. If you can't find your way around, just ask for directions. A small square at the crossroads of many pedestrian streets, the Jaw's Corner is always bustling with people. It is a social hub in Stone Town, where the men of the community meet for a traditional spice coffee, with lots of ginger and spices. Sugar is replaced here by sweet peanut brittle. The common cups are passed from hand to hand and mouth to mouth, as a result of the conviviality and respect for tradition.
On the baraz, the stone steps that line the streets like this square, the old men sit comfortably in rows, chatting all day long. Opposite them are Vespas on which groups of young people are slumped, also in full discussion. There are only men, the women just pass by and greet their acquaintances. Early morning fishermen come here before going to bed, traders after work in the evening, everyone has his favorite time. On a large blackboard, the fresh news of the city are written. Today there is a funeral for a member of the community. An electric pole is the source of a good joke, since a prankster has hung a telephone here with a sign "international calls". A little wink to the tourists who would like to use this imaginary taxi phone!
