This tour takes you into the lagoon with the women seaweed farmers, an interesting sustainable tourism visit.

The women of this coastal region of Zanzibar are involved in red seaweed aquaculture. You'll see many of their "fields" at low tide from Pajé to Makunduchi. They come in two types, coton and spinosa, and are known for their antioxidant and gelling properties, used in toothpaste and food jellies. Once harvested, they are dried, crushed and incorporated into soaps, just like the island's harmoniously scented spices. At low tide, you can observe their hard work - you have to be constantly stooped, under the sun, then carry 30 kg bags on your head - but also chat with them, watch them place seaweed on seedlings, which will then grow rootless for two months before being harvested. Mwani Zanzibar is a former cooperative of women growers, now a cosmetics brand. The visit takes place in the morning: a guide takes you out at low tide to meet these very friendly women, who are happy to take photos (unlike the other growers in the lagoon). The seaweed production goes to the soap factory, which we'll also visit during the tour. A refreshing seaweed juice is served. These little soaps are sold in the workshop's store, along with some rather expensive cosmetics now under the Mwani brand, part of the production of which is carried out in the laboratory, to guarantee quality cosmetics.

Transparence?
