Spice Island Hotel & Resort, Paje - Jambiani, Zanzibar
Coral reefs, clear warm Indian Ocean waters and relaxed beaches are part of Zanzibar's legendary charm. The other part is the island's unique cultural mix experience that reflects a melting pot of African, Indian, Arab, Persian and Portuguese influences, and a strong culture of hospitality among its people that will leave Zanzibar etched forever in your memories and your heart.
One of the most popular places on the island is the Spice Island Hotel & Resort, a 4-star plus Hotel and Resort, located on the southeast coast of Zanzibar, between the villages of Paje and Jambiani.
On this coast, you'll find the "Zanzibar experience" with the most beautiful white-sand beaches in the island archipelago.
The Island Hotel Spice and Resort ist located next to a main beach also features a non-visible, 100-meter private beach.
The pool is 32 meters long from 1.70 meters to 4.00 meters deep and has a non-swimmers' zone.
34 room-apartments (56m²) each with your own private terraces and 2 bathrooms are surrounded by a botanical garden with an incredible diversity of plants and a luxury-Suite over 120 m2 with a private beach and Jakuzi.
The restaurant serves international cuisine and Zanzibar dishes as well. Diverse wines and international cocktails are offered in two different bars, one in the restaurant and another at the pier platform with a terrace.
In the oriental lounge of Spice Island Hotel you can relax, listen to music or read. Every Saturday is movie night in our cinema with international films.
For health and pleasure the hotel team has a spa and wellness center, where guests can get the full treatment for body, beauty and soul.
There is a free wi-fi Internet connection and at the restaurant bar and in our guests can watch international pay TV DSTV in different languages at the bar on the lounge and in the Luxury-Suite.
Every Wednesday and Sunday arrives a barbecue along the illuminated pool with music from life.
Connected to the hotel is a sports-water center, where guests can go catamaraning, diving, fishing, windsurfing, kite flying, banana boat towing, water skiing, coral reef tours and more.
The hotel's management is organzinig site-see-special tours like Pierre-Ville-Tour, Spice farm-Tour, Jozani-National-Forest-Tour, Dolphin-Tour, Safari-Blue-Tour, Island Prison-Tour, Chumbe-Coral Island-Park-Tour or our special Ox-tour-program, Trekking-Tour to local caves, Swahili cooking course and of course in Kiswahili and more.
Cons; rooms were outdated. No screens in windows so you couldn't enjoy the ocean view without inviting bugs. Instead they sprayed the room with toxic bug spray every night so you're sealed in a closed room with all the chemicals. Yuck!! Hard mattress and pillows. Only get 1 litter is water and they charge for every extra bottle of water in your room so you have to ration when brushing teeth or pay extra.
Overall would not stay there again, but was OK if you're on a budget.
The rooms are nice and are so well kept by the housekeeping who do a fantastic job. All of the staff at the hotel are friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The pool is amazing and there are plenty of loungers for guests.
I would stay here again????
I would highly recommend anyone to get a facial with Paulina in the SPA, it was amazing, one of the best facial's I have ever gotten. She also does the eyebrows so well and completely painless, plus she is a lovely person. We also got the massage, which also we highly recommend!
The location of the hotel is beautiful, and the Staff is very friendly, mostly the reception managers.
On the other hand, we found that the rooms were outdated and that could have been more clean, which made our stay at times not so comfortable. The food is also one aspect that the hotel could improve. Personal recommendation, get the local dishes in the hotel's restaurant!
