ST. GEORGE'S CHURCH
A very old church with a brightly-colored flamboyant dome and a wedding hall preserving its period decor.
It is a very old church built in the 10th century which was rebuilt late in the 19th century. It is certainly impressive in size, but its greatest particularity lies in the fact that it is the only round church in Egypt. Set with a flamboyant and brightly coloured dome, one can still admire the 4th century wedding hall, which has preserved the period decoration. This place of worship is dedicated to Saint George, a very popular Middle Eastern saint who was executed in 303 for disobeying a decree banning the practice of Christianity.
