Interesting mosque blending Mamluk and Ottoman styles, worth a visit for its age.
Mosque built in 1567 by Mahmoud Pacha, the bloodthirsty governor of Cairo, who was always accompanied by his executioner. With a single gesture, he would indicate to his right-hand man the person to be killed on the spot. He was finally assassinated and died from a bullet to the jaw. With these introductions in mind, the construction of the mosque was completed within a few months of his death. This mosque is worth a visit for its age and its blend of Mamluk and Ottoman styles.
