Restored mosque with a beautifully decorated interior, featuring a facade and minaret in keeping with Mamluk architectural canons.
The city of Cairo is under the votive protection of Sayeda Zeinab, granddaughter of the Prophet Mohammed, whose shrine, a contemporary of Hussein, was built on this site. The mosque we see today has been restored and modified four times in four centuries. The façade and minaret respond to the Mamluk canons of architecture. The interior is beautifully decorated with its painted wooden ceiling. The mausoleum that houses the eternal sleep of Sayeda Zeinab is topped by a dome and is decorated with impressive stalactites.
