ESPLANADE OF THE MOHAMMED ALI MOSQUE
Esplanade housing a mosque in front of a sahn and a clock tower presented by Louis-Philippe to Mohammed Ali in 1846.
A number of Mamluk-era buildings were demolished to clear the esplanade and build the mosque, in front of which stands a sahn or ablutions fountain. Next to it stands a tower housing the clock presented by Louis-Philippe to Mohammed Ali in 1846. For a long time, this clock did not work. In 2003, thanks to cooperation with the French Embassy in Egypt, an investor was able to repair it, but it doesn't really work today.

Mais c'est un élément de la mosquée qui a un certain charme.
