SULEIMAN PASHA MOSQUE
Mosque with a prayer hall topped by four domes, one of which is very large and decorated with marble and fine ceramics.
Less well known than the Mohamed-Ali Mosque, this mosque is nonetheless of great beauty. It was built in 1528 by the Ottoman governor who gave it his name. Its prayer room, topped by four domes, one of which is very large, is decorated with marble and fine ceramics. An inner courtyard leads at the back to the mausoleum of Sariyat el-Gamil, a saint of the Fatimid period, and, on the right, to a small madrassa. This secluded mosque is surrounded by an ever-maintained garden that displays various objects. A magnificent and peaceful visit.
