This synagogue, built from 1905 to 1907 by architect Edouard Matasek, has an Art Nouveau air.

The Rue Adly synagogue was built between 1905 and 1907 by architect Edouard Matasek. Its fin-de-siècle style has a touch of Art Nouveau about it, giving the façade a strong character. It's forbidden to take photos of it from the front or from nearby balconies: police officers keep watch over the rooftops. Only Magda Haroun, one of the last Jewish women in Egypt, holds the key to this synagogue. She now devotes her time to preserving Egypt's Jewish heritage.
