The mosque is named after the hero of the 1807 Alexandria expedition, who resisted the French occupation. In neo-Arabic style, this place of worship receives prayers at the funerals of the great dignitaries of the state and people of public notoriety. Placed in the front row during demonstrations and confrontations, the mosque was used as a hospital and a place of retreat on several occasions.
