BEN IZRA SYNAGOGUE
This ancient synagogue with its Christian architecture, recently restored, is the only synagogue in Cairo open to the public.
Built in the 12th century on the site of a church (Saint Michael), the oldest synagogue in Cairo has recently been restored. Its architecture is Christian, its arabesques are Islamic, and its Hebrew ornaments and inscriptions are Hebrew, but this synchetism forms an astonishingly harmonious whole. According to Jewish tradition, the prophet Jeremiah is buried there. It is also said to be the place where the Pharaoh's daughter discovered Moses floating on the Nile. It is the only synagogue in Cairo open to the public, and it is also beautiful, don't miss it!
