This funerary complex, with its richly sculpted tombs, is one of the most romantic places in Egypt.
This is one of the most romantic places in Egypt. Hosh el-Pasha, "the Pasha's Garden", is a funerary complex where most of the descendants of Mohammed Ali Pasha are buried. Built in 1854, it is entered through a monumental gate, followed by a covered walkway leading to a hall topped by a dome. On the left, various rooms, all topped by cupolas decorated and painted in Ottoman style, unfold. The tombs, richly sculpted, painted, surmounted by figurative turbans or other headdresses, are still intact.
