SAAD ZAGHLOUL MAUSOLEUM
Neo-Pharaonic mausoleum with colonnades and cornices from Pharaonic temples, adorned with Arabic calligraphy.
Located next to the Saad Zaghloul metro station and vegetable market of the same name, this neopharaonic style mausoleum was built from 1928 to 1931 by the architect Mustapha Fahmi. Built in granite, it follows the lines, colonnades and cornice of the Pharaonic temples adorned with Arabic calligraphy: it was the first monument of this style which did not meet with much success. Saad Zaghloul was prime minister in 1924 and served the cause of free Egypt.
