BAB EL-NASR
Porte de la Victoire (Victory Gate), recognizable by its two massive square towers, the upper part of which contains firing chambers.
It is the walls built in 1087 by Badr el-Gamali that can still be admired today. Made of stone, they replaced the first brick walls built in 969 by Jaouhar. The el-Hakim Mosque was built outside the first enclosure, and included in the second one. Bab el-Nasr (Gateway to Victory) is recognisable by its two massive square towers (8 m wide) that flank it. The upper part of the tower includes firing chambers. A Fatimid shield is carved there: a shield and a sword.
