ZEINAB KHATOUM HOUSE
Refurbished el-Azhar mosque featuring a large main hall and a summer terrace overlooking an inner courtyard.
Going up towards the el-Azhar mosque, one reaches a small square containing two architectural jewels. On the way, you will find two shops: a bookbinder and the el-Khatoun shop which offers a good craft. The Zeinab Khatoum house is a house built in 1468 during the Mameluk period, and refurbished in 1713. The main room, the qaa, is imposing by its height on two floors. The maqead, or summer terrace, overlooks a pretty courtyard to the north of the building. The carved wooden ceilings are remarkable.
